DANIEL

Four years ago a little boy was brought to The Kings Children’s Home late one Saturday afternoon. Police had removed him off the streets in Duncan Village where he was stealing food for basic survival. All I remember was looking at this painfully thin, dirty little boy at my door who was shaking from fear and had soiled himself and thinking “Lord, you’ve brought him to me for a much higher purpose....”

As I bent down and looked into his beautiful liquid brown eyes I gave him a big hug and asked him in Xhosa what his name was. He replied in his own language ... “Daniel”. Right then and there God connected our hearts and I looked at him and said, “Daniel, with a good Bible Name like that you have come to the right house!!”

My husband is a pastor and we have opened our hearts and our home to many abandoned and abused children in the last six years. We walk this road of FAITH daily trusting God in EVERY way for EVERY provision....and so we trusted Him for a permanent home for Daniel too.

The weeks rolled into months and the months into years and Daniel grew into a beautiful, loving, obedient little boy who enriched our lives and bonded with our family. We continued to pray for a family to adopt him and many times even asked ourselves, “are we the answer to our own prayers?” – But somehow deep inside one day we would see the bigger picture.

Our babies came and went in and out the safe house and found their adoptive families – and Daniel began to ask “mommy, when is my adoptive mommy coming to fetch me?”

How do you explain to a 7 year old that no one wants the older children?

How do you explain to a precious little boy who has lived for four years in a safe house hoping every day it might be his turn next for a home – and that day never arrives?!

But what I do know is this – God’s ways are not our ways, and His ways are higher than ours and His plans and purposes prevail, even when we feel unsure. We need to remain faithful in prayer and patient in TRUSTING in His timing.

I belong to an Adoption Support Group that Ulutho runs and my family loves interacting at these meetings. At our last meeting I was introduced to a new couple in our group who were attending the meeting for the first time. We chatted over a cup of coffee about our adoption journeys and shared stories of our children. At one point in the conversation I asked the names of their children and I couldn’t believe it when the penny dropped and I realized that this couple were in the process of adopting Daniels twin brother and sister ...WOW! They didn’t even know there was an older brother! The hearts of this couple were so pure as immediately they said with NO HESTATATION – can they adopt Daniel too and keep all the siblings together?!!!

ONLY GOD COUD DO THIS!! ONLY HE COULD PLACE DANIEL WITH HIS SIBLINGS AT THE RIGHT TIME INTO SUCH AN AMAZING CHRISTIAN HOME WITH ADOPTIVE PARENTS WHO ARE EXCITED ABOUT TAKING ON A 7 YEAR OLD!! WOW!!
